About Me

Welcome to my personal website! I’m Lauren Wisdom and I am so happy you are here. Although I am based out of Sycamore, Illinois, I chose to attend a small school in Waverly, Iowa called Wartburg College. At Wartburg, I earned my bachelor’s degree in May 2021 in Journalism and Communication where my main focuses were multimedia journalism and public relations.

When I first came to Wartburg, I had dreams of becoming a sports anchor. I always told my family that I was going to take Kelly Crull’s job because she was always on the television when I watched Chicago Cubs games. However, the more classes I took at Wartburg, I developed a strong passion for social media. Those dreams I grew up having soon changed as I now want to pursue sports social media as a career. Name a better place to work than on a field or on a court. I will wait.

I was raised an ultimate Cubs fan. When I was younger, I used to watch Cubs games just because my family did. As I got older, I developed a love not only for the Cubs, but also for the game of baseball itself. I played softball for 18 years of my life, including all four years of college, so I was able to understand how the game is played. From watching my former teammates, teams I played against, and the professionals on television, I witnessed some great players flash the leather or have monster hits to help their team succeed. The game is unpredictable which makes it so much fun to watch (and play) because you never know what big hits or key plays you will see until the final out is made. Having conversations about baseball and about the players who have an impact on the game today is second nature to me.

As a tribute to my childhood team, I created my own Twitter fan account for the Chicago Cubs (@cubsfanscentral) when I was just 16 years old. What was meant to be fun turned into a passion that allows me to connect with others who love baseball as much as I do while also improving my skills in social media. Discussions about baseball and about the players who have an impact on the game today are two of my favorite topics to talk about. I have managed my fan account since July 2015. Since then, my has gained almost 6,000 followers and has presented me with incredible opportunities. Such opportunities include being featured on the Marquee Sports Network’s Twitter page where I created a fan-made video that received over 42,000 views and being asked by the Cubs social media team to accompany a TikTok creator (@nnapples) at Wrigley Field to help create content for her channels.

Other than going to as many Cubs games as I can during baseball season and tweeting whatever pops into my head, I started to jot down creative ideas in my notes. Then, I turn those ideas into TikToks! Furthermore, I find joy in taking pictures and editing them afterwards. In fact, my friends send me a picture they took with no context, and I already know to edit what they send me. Aside from working on my social media craft, I enjoy finding new music and creating various playlists on Spotify to fit certain moods. Yes, I am #TeamSpotify over Apple Music. However, please do not ask me my favorite song because I swear it changes every week.

I also find a lot of peace in writing. As a kid, I wrote many short stories that did not have a meaning behind them, but I just continued to write. During my senior year of college, I was a staff writer and sports editor for the Wartburg Trumpet, Wartburg’s student-run newspaper. I wrote my own op-ed pieces which meant I had my own column published in every issue where I had the freedom to write about a topic of my choice. Though, in my free time, I like to journal about my own thoughts or write about a given prompt in my “500 Writing Prompts” book I received as a gift. Additionally, I like to handwrite letters to my friends and family members to express my gratitude toward them. Handwritten letters will never go out of style in my book!
